So right before Maggie was born, I got a bunch of new backdrops & props. I’ve been dying to try a few of them out. I’m still on maternity leave, but my cute little niece was visiting from Tucson this week so she came over to model for me. Love her and her parents so much! It was so fun to be shooting again – it’s so much easier to move when I’m not pregnant:)

I am slowly getting back into the swing of things and realized that although I put some images on facebook, I never blogged about my sweet new arrival. Maggie is now 5 weeks old – how did that happen? I love everything about her. She is the sweetest little baby, and has even spoiled me by sleeping through the night a handful of times. There is just nothing like snuggling a little newborn, and I am reminded once again how quickly they grow and change.

This image of the week is actually a series. These cute sisters came for their session way back last fall. They were so much fun – super friendly and chatty. They were dressed for more formal shots, but their mom also really wanted to capture their personalities and their relationship with each other. Loved what we created.

New Feature: Image of the Week

I’ve been thinking of ways to update the blog more frequently, and not have it be overwhelming for me. As many of you know, I am pregnant with our third little girl – due in August. This pregnancy has definitely been harder for me – I suppose that’s what happens as you get older – and I’ve let a few things go, including the blog. But I have been busy shooting, and have lots of images to share. I thought I would share some favorites by doing an image of the week feature. This will allow me to share new favorites, along with those I love, but never took the opportunity to share. I have been working on earning my CPP (Certified Professional Photographer) credential, and one of the requirements is an image review. I had to submit 20 images, photographed in the last 2 years, for review. It was really fun looking through my work over the last couple of years and selecting favorite images for submission. I’m happy to say that I passed the review – now I need to take a written test to finish the process, although I may not have the opportunity until 2012 to do so, as it isn’t offered locally until then. So on to this week’s favorite image…..

This is a newborn from earlier this year. His parents brought these tiny skis to use somehow in his session. They live in Park City, and love all things outdoor, including skiing – I’m sure this little one will be on skis before too long. This is what we came up with. It was one of my favorites from the session, and the image they selected as a wall portrait. I wish I had snapped a shot of it framed and ready to hang before they picked it up – I really loved the finished product.

Long time, no blog

I ran into a good friend the other day, who I hadn’t seen in quite some time. She asked if I was working much, since I hadn’t posted on the blog since October. I have actually been working a lot……just not blogging Whenever I get busy, it seems that the blog is the first thing to go. Such is life. Right now I am working on some blog and website updates – all of that not so fun but necessary back-end stuff. Also, I have been working on this year’s Limited Edition Session Schedule. Last fall’s Limited Editions were such a success that I have decided to schedule more for 2011. You can click here to see the schedule for the whole year. I spent a day last week shooting sample images for the first few Limited Edition sessions. Super, super cute! I am really excited for these. Limited Edition sessions are perfect for those with a more limited budget, or if you just want a few images to choose from, or if you would just like to come experience what Emily Jane Photography is all about without the commitment of a full session. Here are some of my favorite images from last week’s promo shoots…..

Simple Classics – simple clothing & backdrop so the focus is on the subject – these are awesome in black & white too

Ties & Tutus – Love, love, love these. I will have some ties & tutus, but you can also bring your own.

Colorful Fun – bold, bright summer colors on a white background. These will be really fun – I even have a mini trampoline for the jumping shots.

No promises on when I will blog again, but I will definitely try not to wait another 4 months!!

Does it get any cuter?

Um, no, I don’t think it gets much cuter than this baby. Despite my love for newborns, I think my favorite baby-age to photograph is right around 6 months. I just love this stage. And I am loving my little studio! I have discovered that I love shooting here in my home. It’s a cozy spot, and far from what my dream studio will be someday, but it is perfect for me and my family right now. The studio has allowed me to stretch myself technically and creatively in different ways, and I love that too.

Super sweet newborn

Oh, what I would give to have a baby with hair like this…..

During this cute family’s ordering session, we kept referring to that image as “the mohawk shot”. This little girl was super sweet, and I just loved seeing her family again. We did the session at their home, and I have to admit that it was pretty fun to walk through their house and see my work all over their walls. They have the cutest little 2 year old who I have photographed twice, and now have added this little beauty to their family. They have done a beautiful job of selecting gorgeous frames that compliment their images. I am kicking myself for not taking a few shots of how they have incorporated their photographs into the decor of their home. Love, love, love what they have done. But back to baby G. There is just nothing like a newborn baby. As I was photographing and again at the ordering session, her parents commented how the photographs allowed them to take a step back and see their baby in a different light. Those first couple of weeks (and months!) are so tiring, and it is easy to get caught up in schedules and feeding and trying to get a little sleep. It is nice to be reminded what a wonderful miracle a new life is. I love that now they will have this beautiful artwork in their home that captured their little one in her first few days of life.

One Month

This little guy visited me in the studio a few weeks ago, and was about the best behaved one month old I’ve seen. After the first two weeks, newborns are really unpredictable, and rarely will they cuddle up and go to sleep. So I was super happy to get a few sleepy shots, plus some new favorite wide-eyed looks. Love these!

Little Man

I have been watching this little man grow for the last year. One can be such a busy age. We had a great time playing with all of his fun toys.
